Ohio--Kirtland and John Johnson Farm

The family in the upper room of the Newel K. Whitney Store. This was the School of the Prophets and the place where the revelation on the Word of Wisdom was received.

I love this action shot.

After driving fourteen hours the first day, we arrived in Kirtland, Ohio. We stayed in Roach Motel II and met the rest of the Dunn family the next morning for a tour of LDS church history sites in Kirtland and Hiram, Ohio. In Kirtland we saw the Kirtland Temple, The Newel K. Whitney store, the Whitney home, the saw mill and the ashery. We then drove out to the historic John Johnson home. It was a beautiful experience to be in that home. This is one of my favorite church history sites that I've been able to visit. Such amazing things happened there including Joseph Smith's revelation of this scripture which I love:

"And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!
For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—
That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God." (Doctrine and Covenants 76:22-24)

This was also the site where Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon were tarred and feathered by an angry mob and where Joseph preached to a crowd (including members of the mob) the following morning.

There is such a beautiful feeling at these places and I was really happy to be able to see them again and for my children to be able to experience them as well.
