Playing Catch Up

Just when I thought the day was over and couldn’t get any worse…I had written a big long post then my computer crashed. I had been saving my draft as I wrote but now it’s nowhere to be found. That’s just the kind of day I had. I’m keeping this one simple and I’ll just mention that my bad day involved a toddler eating most of a box of prunes, a wasp’s nest in my house and a kid in the bathtub with all his clothes on. I bet you are all imaging all kinds of fun with those things and you probably aren’t far off.  At least it was pretty much all stuff I could laugh about.

These pictures were taken after Nate hurried and let out the water. Note the shoes.

There’re a couple other things I wanted to catch up on. This post is kind of a random conglomeration of things, but hey, why not?

berry pickers Saturday we went blueberry picking. We picked three gallons and have already eaten quite a few of them. We were out in the heat for about 2 and a half hours getting fire ant bites and sweat in our eyes, but let me tell you that when I tasted the blueberry cobbler David made for Sunday dessert I knew it was well worth the effort!

shell frameThis next picture is a simple little project I did a couple of days ago. We collected all kinds of shells while we were at the beach and I thought it would be fun to use some of them to make a picture frame. I got a cheap frame at Hobby Lobby for $1.50 on sale and then glued the shells to it with hot glue. I sealed the whole thing with a couple of  coats of high gloss lacquer. I printed off one of the pictures I took on the trip and now I have a nice little decorative element for my bathroom.

Another thing I wanted to share was Joel’s cool find from our trip to the beach. It stormed the day we got there and all kinds of stuff was being washed up to the beach with the waves. perspective shot Joel brought this to show me. At first we thought it was a piece of drift wood. Cool right? Not as cool as what Dave said it is. I noticed that it seemed pretty heavy for a piece of wood and when David examined it he said, “This isn’t wood. This is bone.” Sure enough when we looked closer it made sense. Look at how porous it is and the way it is formed on the end looks like the end of a bone would look with a place for the marrow.undersideend viewDavid says it is too large to be a dolphin bone and no human bone would be this size or shape (phew! I was worried for a minute there). We figure it is either part of a whale bone or possibly a fragment of sea turtle bone. I wish we knew someone who could solve the mystery decisively for us.

Finally, here is how we started our day on July 4th:

red white and blueberries  I call it “Red, White and Blueberry Waffles.” It was every bit as tasty as it looks.

church and stateAnd here is how we ended the day on the 4th of July. This is a church we walked past on the way to watch the fireworks. I loved the juxtaposition of the stained glass window and the flag. God bless America!

So, I guess that about catches me up. Until next time…
