Deep Pockets

Who doesn’t love pockets? They’re a handy place to store spare change, a key, a slip of paper, a piece of gum, or if you are one of my kids, maybe even an earthworm (that’s another story). Have you ever worn pants without pockets only to spend the day trying to stick things into those non-existent pockets. I have. Well, Daniel—being the industrious three year old that he is—has come up with a solution.

The other night I scooped up Daniel off the floor to put him into bed. As I was holding him, I noticed his legs were all lumpy. “What’s this?” I asked.

“There’s toys in there,” he answered.

I set him back down on the floor where he proceeded to spend the next several minutes removing wooden blocks that he had stuffed down the legs of his footie pajamas.

Have you ever seen a clown car at a circus? It was kind of like that. With each block that came out, it got a little funnier. I started to think, how could there possibly be one more block in there. All told, there were probably about 30 blocks that he had conveniently stowed in his pajama legs.

Once he had all the blocks taken out, he looked at me, gave me a cheeky grin and started taking blocks from the pile and putting them back into his pajamas.

no pocketsCheeky grin as he decides to put them back in. You can see a corner of the impressive pile of blocks he removed at the bottom of the picture.

Who knows why kids do stuff like that? My best guess is that he did it because his pajamas don’t have pockets, so he just used the next best thing.

Gavin does this too!!! 27 nerf darts, stuffed animals, extra underwear, you name it. It's funny to see another child with a similar brain!
