Starting Easter Week

We are gearing up for Easter around here. Daniel is more into it than ever before. Yesterday he asked me “Does the Easter Bunny wuf (love) me?” I assured him that the Easter Bunny loves him very much. He has asked me several times in the last two days when the Easter bunny is coming, and while I find this adorable and endearing, I also want to make sure that we are remembering why we really celebrate Easter.

Sunday night we read about the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem from the scriptures. Last night we talked about Jesus cleansing the temple and some of the miracles he performed. We also had our Easter themed Family Home Evening. We sang a couple of songs (Christ the Lord is Risen Today and Did Jesus Really Live Again? ), read some scriptures from the New Testament and watched this short message.

Afterward we colored our Easter eggs and had our treat.

The boys were excited for egg dyeing, as usual. I was a little nervous, as usual. The newspaper did end up being warranted when one of the boys spilled the blue dye. Several people had already had a chance to use it so the only real tragedy was that certain members of the family didn’t get to make their traditional BYU eggs.

When you have four kids you end up with a lot of dyed eggs. It’s okay though. My kids love hard boiled eggs so I have no worries that they will all get eaten.

Easter is full of all kinds of symbolism. These Easter rolls that we had for our treat are a cool visual aid for teaching about how the tomb was empty on Easter morning because Jesus was resurrected. They were very easy and huge hit with the whole family.

The evening was a great way to start the week by focusing our thoughts on Jesus Christ and the reason for celebrating this holiday but with the traditional fun elements making an appearance as well.

This is a nice article about the last week of the Savior’s mortal ministry that I have been referring to as we have our family scripture study each night.
