It Begins

To be honest I thought I'd get  a little reprieve from all the messes. I hoped there would be at least a small window of time between the time Nate stopped getting into everything and Daniel started. No such luck. Yes, Nate is better than he once was, but I have a feeling these two are going to be a dangerous duo.

Today Nate:

  • Got the cereal down from the top of the fridge to get himself a snack

Today Daniel:

  • Dumped out almost all of said cereal onto the kitchen floor
  • Tried to eat all the cereal before I could sweep it up

Today I:

  • Wondered if I am on my way to setting a record for most cereal on a kitchen floor in a 6 month period of time
  • Mentally calculated the cost of two bags of cereal and cringed.

Today Nate:

  • Took all the crayons and coloring books out of the cupboards

Today Daniel:

  • Dumped out 500+ crayons
  • Tore pages out of 2 coloring books
  • Colored on the inside of the front door

Today I:

  • Added more Mr. Clean Magic Erasers to the shopping list
  • Picked up and threw away scraps from torn out coloring book pages

Today Nate:

  • Helped himself to the strawberries in the fridge which I told him not to get into.
  • Ate two apples without permission
  • Left the apple cores between the couch and the end table

Today Daniel:

  • Went through the garbage searching for orange peels, strawberry hulls and apple cores and came up empty handed because Nate thinks the garbage belongs under the couch, on the floor and in between the couch cushions.
  • Threw away at least 2 things that didn't belong in the garbage

Today I:

  • Wondered why there are only 7 spoons now. . .
  • Couldn't find Daniel's sippee cup--again. (Better go check the trash!)
  • Reminded myself that we all eat a pound of dirt before we die. (Thanks for that wisdom Danielle!)

Today Nate:

  • Cried really loudly for no apparent reason
  • Whined about having a "short" turn on the computer

Today Daniel:

  • Cried really loudly for no apparent reason
  • Hit Seth in the face with a spatula while he was napping on the couch

Today I:

  • Felt like crying but didn't
  • Wondered how the spatula got out of the kitchen drawer
  • Tried, unsuccessfully to get Nate to take a nap
  • Breathed a sigh of relief when Daniel went down for a nap

Today I also:

  • Put all the Tupperware from the Tupperware cupboard away--twice
  • Put all the pots and pans away--twice
  • Picked up the entire contents of her bathroom cupboard from her bedroom floor where Daniel had unceremoniously dumped them and put them away
  • Took a handful of pens, markers and scissors away from Daniel and put them back in the craft drawer
  • Flushed the toilet when someone else forgot to--twice
  • Turned off lights in the rooms where no one was playing
  • Took care of a sick kid
  • Unloaded and loaded back up the dishwasher
  • Changed Daniel's clothes after he dumped Nate's cup of juice down his front
  • Swept the floor (needed to mop but didn't) and mourned the fact that it never stays clean for more than 24 hours.
  • Helped Joel with his homework
  • Made a nutritious dinner for the family--Lasagna, vegetables and garlic bread
  • Made a dreaded phone call
  • Folded laundry
  • Started to clean her room (but didn't finish)
  • Changed several diapers
  • Got a headache
  • Ate chocolate (Dove--mmmm) to make me feel better even though I am trying to cut way back on sugar.

As you can see it was a very full day. It wasn't all bad--there were ups and downs. The chocolate was good--I wouldn't say I really regret that. Actually, I'm just glad I survived the day. I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Today, you were a mom. What a fantastic, glorious calling -- even when it doesn't feel like it. :)

You are my hero because you do this 7 days a week. This past Saturday I called Mike at work and told him that I was just going to sit on the bed all day and do nothing, because that was about all I was getting done anyway. I could not accomplish the tasks I needed to because Grace would make a new mess as quickly as I could clean up the previous one.

I don't feel so alone now Jill!!! I could cut and paste almost that entire day and put it on my blog! Sometimes I wonder why I even bother cleaning the house! Hang in there-pretty soon we'll be able to send them outside to play-HOORAY!!!

Does David ever wonder what you do all day? Graham was wondering what I'll be doing after the baby is born, maybe I will just send him this post. :)
