Last day—officially. It’s been thirty days (I know, I can’t believe it either! Where does the time go?) so, I met my goal. I’m not ready to give up the idea of looking for loveliness yet though. It’s been really therapeutic. I can honestly say that there have been a number of days when I thought “This day has not been lovely. What on earth am I going to post?” However, as I’ve thought about it I’ve been able to come up with blessings to count every day. Keep looking for me to post more loveliness--although use of the word “lovely” will probably diminish. I don’t want to un-lovelify it by over-use. :) So without further ado, here is my final lovely list:
- Sole possession of the remote control—but deciding to turn off the TV to read The Book Thief instead.
- Peach Sunkist. Yes. Peach.
- Free samples in the mail.
- Joel bringing me azaleas that he picked and saying, “These flowers deserve you, Mom.” Not exactly sure what he meant but I know it was a compliment.
- Three sick boys making the transition to three mostly healthy boys.
- 80 degree weather.
- A good friend taking the time to listen and be supportive.
- Trees (I read an article about the world’s tallest tree on the NPR website today. It was awe inspiring.)
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
-- Joyce Kilmer
What loveliness did the day bring to you?
