Nate looks grumpy but he really just has the sun in his eyes.
Last week at my boys’ elementary school was “Read Across America Week.” The week was filled with book themed activities and culminated in a book character parade Friday morning in front of the school. I had the flu on Wednesday and still didn’t feel 100% Thursday so I was scrambling at the last minute on Thursday night trying to help my kids figure out costumes (nothing new too much there). Anyway, this is what we came up with.
Nate was Bear from A Visitor for Bear by Bonny Becker and Kady MacDonald Denton. We made him some felt bear ears and dressed him in brown. I let him carry a stuffed mouse (“small and gray and bright eyed, of course”). This is currently one of my favorite picture books. I love the illustrations and the language. It is a joy to read.
Joel was Seth Sorenson from Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. This is one of our family’s favorite series. If you are not familiar with it, check it out. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. His costume consisted of a long sleeved camouflage t-shirt and jeans and a tactical cereal box (filled with emergency supplies and snacks) and adorned with a butterfly and a note that said “Drink the milk.”

I thought they looked great! Danny did not want to be left out so he wore his SP (Super Person) cape to the parade.
